Popular choice at Scituate art show

Darcy Palmer's favorite food turned into the favorite painting of visitors to the Front Street Art Gallery this month.
DarcyPalmer.jpgThe gallery was the site of the Scituate High School Student Art Show, organized by Carolyn Wachta, chairwoman of the Fine Arts Department, and Kay Shaw, a longtime gallery member.
More than 50 works in various media were on display, and viewers were asked to write down their favorite work or artist. When the votes were tallied, the People's Choice Award went to Darcy.
The Scituate High senior, who works at the South Shore Arts Center in Cohasset, said this painting incorporates elements of all the artwork she has seen there.
"It's a modern way of doing things, with bright colors and swift movements of the brush,'' she said.
The acrylic painting is the product of her imagination, Darcy said, but the subject -- ice cream -- is her favorite food, and the background bears a resemblance to the woodsy area where she lives.
Darcy will receive her award at a gallery reception in May.
