The Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona is exhibiting a collection of Norman Rockwell's paintings of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
The exhibit opens June 15 at the Winona Museum and runs through Aug. 8. The 16 signed prints from Rockwell's collection were commissioned in 1935 when publisher George Macy commissioned Rockwell to illustrate editions of Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
Rockwell visited Twain's hometown of Hannibal, Missouri to gather authentic details for his work. He painted scenes from the books themselves, including the famous image of Tom and Huck painting a white picket fence.
