562 couples to wed on Valentine’s Day

BACOLOD CITY — The biggest in the history of mass wedding ceremonies in Bacolod City will be held on Valentine’s Day this Sunday, February 14 when some 562 couples will married at the city’s BAYS Center at 9 in the morning.
The mass wedding will serve to highlight the Civil Registration Month in Negros Occidental, according to Evelyn Legaspina, City Civil Registrar.
She said several of the couples are already live-in partners and have children and even grandchildren from their relationship without benefit of a wedding ceremony.
The registration process of couples who intend to have their wedding solemnized on Valentine’s Day is based on a house-to-house survey with the cooperation of barangay officials in the barangay level, Legaspina said.
Said mass wedding on Valentine’s Day is an annual project of Mayor Evelio Leonardia to facilitate the social aspect of giving stability to families. Such ceremony, to be officiated by the Mayor has legal strength.
